International Competitors

Travelling from around the World

Since 2004, the Warren Jones Regatta has seen competitors from France, Japan and USA with consistent representation from Sweden and more particularly New Zealand.

Emil Wiberg represented the Royal Gothenburg Sailing Club in 2004 and 2005, flying in to Perth early each time to familiarise himself and his crew with the Foundation 36 yachts and the conditions on the race course.

In 2007 and 2008, John Bäck represented the Royal Swedish Yacht Club, receiving tips and valuable coaching from fellow countryman Magnus Holmberg in the lead up to the 2008 event.

Our Pacific comrades from New Zealand have sent many competitors over the years from the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron and recently the Royal Port Nicholson Yacht Club.

From 2004 to 2009, the representation of Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron has been particularly strong with the Warren Jones Trophy won consecutively from 2004 to 2006 by brothers Simon (2004 and 2005) and Adam Minoprio (2006) and again in 2009 by Phil Robertson.

In 2010, with the reformation and rescheduling of the Colin Mullins Regatta leading directly into the Warren Jones Regatta as a qualifier event, teams from Japan, Denmark, Great Britain, New Zealand and interstate from Sydney made the trip to Perth to compete in the Colin Mullins Regatta in the hope of qualifying for the Warren Jones Regatta.
