Team Building

Corporate Team Building

General Information

Swan River Sailing has been providing structured team building programs for 18 years to many of Perth's high profile companies.

The program is built around a professionlly facilitated preparatory workshop "Teamwork is Everything" based on the winning America's Cup team in 1983 aboard the yacht "Australia II". The workshop is presented by Skip Lissiman, a member of the winning Australia II crew, and Wilco Veerman, an MBA graduate, management consultant and past representative of his native country, Holland in high profile international sailing events.

Held in a meeting room at the prestigious Royal Perth Yacht Club, the workshop covers a range of team building activities and the theoretical elements of team dynamics.

As previous sailing experience is not required, a comprehensive sailing briefing follows the workshop with participants broken into groups of 5 to 7 people per yachts before proceeding to the yachts. Once onboard, a Foundation facilitator will brief participants on safety aspects and relevant procedures. The facilitator will also allocate and explain a role for each person on board the yacht.

After a practice session to familiarise participants with their roles, a series of short races will be conducted in Matilda Bay with facilitators coaching team members to maximise and utilise their understanding of the elements of team dynamics discussed in the workshop. Racing against other yachts provides team members with a measure of their team's performance and highlights the importance of the essential elements of teamwork in reaching defined goals.

Teams will return to shore and be guided through an analysis of the their progress throughout the sailing activity to consolidate the lessons taught in the workshop.

A meeting with your company prior to the day of your team building event will allow the program to be customised to ensure that your objectives and desired outcomes are met.

No sailing experience is needed to gain the full benefit of our team building programs.

The benefits of our on water team building sessions are numerous but perhaps the most notable is that the participants have ownership of their results in each race. Their ability to adapt to the task and work together as a team to produce a podium result as they finish the race gives them immediate acknowledgement of their achievement. What better way for your group to develop their teamwork skills?
